A journal spread for Susi's fun theme over at
Collage with a twist...... no faces, leaves or wings.
My book is getting very thick and chunky and nearly impossible to get a photo of it open
The background is layers of paints, crayons and stamps.
The hand, is my own, which I drew around and recalled some happy memories of doing the same thing, with the children in school.
The splashes of white, the readable quote [not my handwritten one beside the hand] were added digitally.
I even found some letters to use on the hand itself , goodness knows how long I have
had those in the scrappy box.

had those in the scrappy box.
The shapes I cut free hand from scraps of embossed card.
A memory came to mind here, this time with a blind girl. I met first of all when she was a Girl Guide , boarding in a school for Blind children.
She learnt to use her hands like we use our eyes. Introducing her to someone new, always meant having to explain that she would need to touch their face,
shapes meant a lot to her.
In case you wonder, she became a teacher herself at the school, which sadly is now closed,
Thank you for calling in to see me today,
you are most welcome
and your comments are very much appreciated.
Beautiful journal pages, great idea with the hand and the shapes. A lot of special school have been closed here, too, so that kids with handicaps have to travel miles to get to school....Thank for another wonderful spread for AJJ! Have a fun weekend, I am going to bAke some scones. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteA fantatic page
ReplyDeleteGreat page! It's hard not to include all those "forbidden things", I know just what you mean about thick books as I've got a couple like that, usually end up putting a pair of scissors or doorstop underneath the other side of the book to try and get it a little more level!

So gorgeous spread page Yvonne !! Fabulous background and colours.... shapes, and your hand trying to reach things... Really fabulous !!Happy weekend to you, big hugs. Caty
ReplyDeleteWhat a special beautifl collage and great that you remembered that blind girl!
ReplyDeleteArt Journaling is a good way to remember, to meditate and to relax -- isn't it?!
It doesn't matter if the journals get thick - the thicker the better!
This is really good, I like the way you have made the hand with your own and the colourful background with the green and copper(?) shapes in front. Your chunky journal sounds intriguing.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant page

This is wonderful, Yvonne, and the back story about the blind girl is fantastic. I adore the hand as well as the geometric shapes that only touch can distinguish for this girl.
ReplyDeleteLots to see on these pages Yvonne and a new style from the norm. Very inspiring

Fabulous page Yvonne. I love when I find things in my scrap boxes that I can use on my project, it's almost as fun as pulling out your winter coat and finding 10 bucks in the pocket! lol.
ReplyDeleteLovely memory for your page. I like the patterns on your hand.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great page, with such tactile sense and movement, and how lovely that it called up such strong memories. I well remember the slightly ticklish feeling of drawing around my own hand, and the memory of the blind girl with her strong dependence on touch and her journey to being a teacher is really beautiful.
