History and Tea.

Hello friends calling in to see me today.
It's Tuesday, so it must be T day over at
where we are always made very welcome to share a drinks related post.

I am sharing more photos from our recent visit to Yorkshire

One of our favourite places to visit is old ruined castles
This one is Middleham.

If you did want to read a little of its history, I have added a link.

There is something about these old castles, the history and things they must have seen over the years.

My husband was keen to see  one of the upper floors that were still accessible via the wooded stairs.
I opted out of this as I am no good with heights.

I explored  the vast grounds and let my imagination wander to the Lords, Ladies and Knights that
may have walked through the rooms.

Leyburn is close by and is a lovely old small market town,
lots of folk about so not many photos were taken.

Needless to say we were looking for a cafe to have a snack and a cuppa.

We found this lovely  eatery at the bottom of the market square.

My choice was a Toasted Cheese and pickle sandwich
and a very welcome pot of tea after our mornings  visit to Middleham.

Our day out exploring didn't end here,
we went to  Teapot  Pottery.
The photos are still to be sorted out , but here is a photo that I think you would like to see today.

Thank you for calling in here  to see me,
Happy T day everyone.

  1. Love that kitty keeping the pot warm! Looks like a great ruin, I love visiting places like that, as you know! And I would LOVE such a huge kitchen, I could put all my art things there and still have room to cook and bake, great! Thanks for sharing the lovely photos and happy T day and a great, new month! Hugs, Valerie

  6. You find the most amazing places to visit. I would LOVE to visit a genuine castle some day. Yes, I'd love a kitchen that large, but only if I had the staff to cook and clean. Seriously, it's a great place to roam around and let your imagination run wild. Like you, I don't like heights, so I would also skip the second floor.

I have a question about your sandwich, Yvonne. You called it "toasted." Was the bread placed in a toaster, then the cheese and pickle added after it came out of the toaster, or was it placed on a grill with bread, cheese, pickle, and another slice of bread. Then flipped to grill or heat the second side? If so, we call those "grilled cheese" sandwiches in the states. Another possible cross over expression for Jo to add to her collection if I'm correct. It genuinely looks like what I would call grilled cheese. Regardless, the Chambers Coffee House looks wonderful and your sandwich and crisps look like something I might order. Of course, I would give you the entire pot of tea while I had a big cup of coffee.

Thanks for sharing your Middleham castle ruins photos and your meal and tea at the Chambers Coffee House with us for T this Tuesday. It looked like very impressive castle ruins and a great photo op.

  8. Those castle ruins look so amazing and I bet it was fun exploring them 😀. I loved finding more about the history on the link you provided, thanks! The castle is steeped in history and I can just imagine the lords, ladies and knights roaming the halls, I bet those walls have a few tales to tell too ... lol 😉. Thanks for a wonderful outing, your sandwich and tea looks so yummy and the little cat looks adorable snuggling up to the warmth of the teapot (grin!). Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊

  12. I can only imagine what it must be like to be able to tour old castles without getting on a plane first. I'd love it! And then to have a restaurant like that? Nice! I look forward to more photos from Teapot Pottery :)

  15. A kitchen that size but with no modern conveniences? No thank you, Yvonne ;-)

Thank you for the link about Middleham. I guess I have a lot of Hollywood ideas about castles in my head. I thought the keep was the tower where prisoners were kept and that the great hall would have one large banquet table down the center.

I feel like you do when I visit very old sites. The idea of being where lords and ladies or Mayan kings and priests walked gives me goosebumps.

I'll pass on the cheese and pickle sandwich but I love your cat on the radio teapot :D

    Happy T-Day! Hugs, Eileen

  16. Loved seeing Middleham Castle - somewhere we would love to visit but the only times we have been to Leyburn were when we have been to 'The Hidden Corner' Maybe now the grandchildren are older we might get a little farther! Toasted Cheese and Pickle sandwich…yum!!! Happy T Day! Chrisx

  17. I am with you about old castles, though I have only been to 1 or 2 while in Ireland. I looked at the link and I think it is fascinating that this was a childhood home of Richard III. He is an interesting king especially since they discovered his body under a parking lot (which is pretty amazing) and that maybe he didn't have that hump in his back. That's what I think of when I hear Richard III. I find reading about that time period fascinating. Thanks for sharing those photos and the toasted cheese sandwich which is one of my favorite meals. And what a cool teapot. I love the little kitty on the top. Happy T day. Erika
