When its Hot at..... Art Journal Journey

The new theme for July begins today at .....

'When its Hot'

chosen for us by our Co-adminstrator
  Erika  [Bio Art Girl]

I used  this journal page as my background, lots of water colour paint smooshed and splashed  all over to create a beach scene.  The vintage bathing belles are digital images. Quite a difference in the costumes women[and men] wore back  then
to the ones we are used to seeing
being worn  on our beaches today.
Those bathing dresses look very hot to wear and I'm sure would be quite heavy when they got wet.

We hope you will join us at AJJ this month and share your  art there.

Thank you for calling by, stay safe everyone.

  1. This is a fabulous page, Yvonne. You actually created not just a beautiful page, but one like I've been researching. Yes, and the idea was modesty. BTW, as skirts got shorter over the years, they actually had a man on every beach policing skirt lengths with a measuring tape. Too bad those police can't control the number of people who will be on the beaches this next weekend. Needless to say, I love this entry and I adore how you created the background to look like the ladies are actually in the water and on the sand. This is a glorious first entry for Erika's theme and an inspiration for us at Art Journal Journey.

  3. This is a great page Yvonne. I love those vintage beach ladies. Those are quite the bathing dresses. I can’t imagine wearing so much at the beach. But I guess after wearing corsets and so many other layers this style of clothes would be a relief. Happy July. Hugs Erika

  4. Great page, Yvonne. I love how you made the beach scene backgrounds. Erika made a good point about the bathing dresses. They sure do look uncomfortable, but everything's relative. Hugs, Eileen

  7. Wow! Stunning colours and, yes, I would not want to have had to wear bathing attire of that sort lol

  8. Great page! Love the colors and the images. You are so correct on those clothes - they surely would struggle when wet! Not a lot of chance of skin cancer though - they may have had the right idea! LOL

  9. Spotted this on Bloglovin' and thought I had commented on it because I love those figures you have used. They really look like they are having a lovely time in the water and just seeing them makes me feel happy. Can't explain it but it does. Mind you I think you lovely background has something to do with that. Very clever how you have used the blue and yellow watercolours - it is so effective and draws the eye into the whole page.
    Fabulous!
    Hugs, Neet xx

  12. Good idea putting these bathing belles on your journal page. I've got a lot of pages waiting for something like this to happen to them. The costumes don't look very practical for swimming in, I wonder if they ever did go into the water.

  13. Love the colours you used for your background Yvonne and those bathing belles look divine upon it. I quiet like the romance of that ear and those costumes were much more lady like (as my Great Grand Mother would have said) than a Bikini..
    Fabulous page Hugs Tracey xx

  15. Gorgeous watercolour beach background - and your vintage women look as though they're really enjoying themselves (despite all those layers of clothing!). Oh, how I'd love to join them for a swim, costumes or not!! A lovely page.
Sorry I've been missing so much again lately - it's a strange time.

  16. Oh my, Yvonne, you used that background to its full advantage! Love the page. In my younger years, I used to think how silly and patriarchially stymied women were to have to clothe every inch of themselves. Then my skin began to be sun-adverse as it aged. Now I begin to see the wisdom in covering up in the sun. I bet they didn't mind all that too terribly, as clothing was all cotton in summer and freckles from sun exposure were considered ugly. XOXOX
