First Lessons in ''art'--' for AJJ

Well I am still in the early years of  school, with this next  hybrid journal spread for

where Elizabeth's super theme for this month is
Back to School.

I would have loved to have shown you a photo of my hands at this stage, but I'm afraid I may have  messed up the camera big style.
As you can guess, I had a ball with the hand painting.
The background is sprayed water
colour  and its   acrylic paint  for the hand.
I have never passed this stage of being messy, its an art in itself to be free with paint, and creativity should be encouraged from an early age.
Much more fun than watching a TV.

The younger children at school found it much more fun when there was a wall [always covered with paper] where they could draw,  paint, splash and splodge colour.
Yes they had a piece of paper and a table, but hey, would you not like a wall to paint  on, I would. have done. Maybe I would been more confident to draw freely now,
if I had been encouraged while young.
In my teenage years, my art teacher told me I was wasting her time and mine, so I swapped subjects at the end of the year.
Rant over, Elizabeth you have  brought up memories
long forgotten with this  great theme choice.

Thank you for stopping by, you are very welcome here
and I always appreciate your comments.

  2. I never got to paint walls, never even painted anything in school. Seriously! If I had been able to get my hands messy with paint, I might have enjoyed art more. In my school, we were allowed four extracurricular activities. I chose band/orchestra, vocal music, drama/speech, and yearbook. Art got passed over, as did painting and cooking/sewing. Maybe if I'd had a teacher that encouraged me, I might have tried. Instead, I went in other directions, as it seems so did you.

It's really OK to rant, Yvonne. I've learned so much from all this journal art. I had no idea this theme was going to dig up so many both wonderful and painful memories. I am totally in awe of your latest hand painted journal entry!

  3. This made me smile. I am loving the art edge and those 2 kids with the backpacks are great. I would love it if kids had all kinds of art supplies to keep them playing longer. Happy new week. Hugs-Erika

  9. A brilliant idea Yvonne and beautifully created :)
I've only just started painting again recently with my fingers - saves on cleaning the brushes too between colours.
Yep its messy but as you say, its an art in itself to be free with paint - I want to be free! ha ha
This certainly is bringing back memories - I was reading some of my old school reports yesterday and felt tearful at times reading some of the remarks, but then I thought if things had of been different and I'd got better exams results, my life would have gone in a different direction probably and I wouldn't want to change that. But reading what your art teacher said I thought.... how dare they grrrrrrrr they should have been encouraging and more supportive.
Walls are a nicer angle for painting on I think - you don't have to hunch over the paper on your desk and get neck ache :)
Hope you have a lovely painty messy week.. Gill xx

  10. Fabulous pages Yvonne, The colourful . The images of the children are lovely. I spent some happy painty sessions with my 2 and 3 year old great granddaughters during the summer holidays. They went back to nursery school today.

  12. A fabulous journal spread, love the idea of encouraging the children to paint on the wall - I just had trouble getting them NOT to paint there, especially when there was wallpaper!

  13. Wow, what a fun spread! I lived art at school but what we did was very boring so it wasn't until I started doing my C&G creative embroidery course that I got back into playing with art....what a lot of wasted art opportunities.....
