Here in the States we called it the OUTHOUSE. They often smelled bad and there were often lots of flies buzzing around inside during the summer. I'm glad this one was NOT functional! <br /><br />It seems Queen Elizabeth I was the first to have one in her home. Building an indoor water closet wasn't much of a problem. The problem was the smell that stayed in the home. The problem with outhouses was they not only smelled, they became contaminated and caused typhus and typhoid fever if built too close to well water. I remember Helen (Stamping by H and Photos by H) ordered one and received it right after the display was removed in November of that year. I'm so glad there is a display which rivals that of the Tower. And of course, I'm delighted you got to see it, too.<br /><br />I also think your beautiful poppy really will be a great remembrance for you. That stamp is lovely, and so is your coloring of it.
