Flying in for tea

These two mad witches have never learned to fly their brooms,
lucky for them  the geese are happy to take them to their destinations.
Oh.... the magic of Fairy Tales
There is still another week to join the fun at Try it on Tuesdays
with the current theme of..... I believe I can Fly.

Now I am off to visit with friends over at
where....

One of our favourite destinations [by car] is the small fishing town of North Shields at the mouth of the River Tyne

Most of the fishing boats were out when I took this photo,
even so there are not so many fishermen these days.

I found this  photo on a
 Google search,
showing how the Quay used to look

This is the view in the other direction up the river.
Within seconds the day changed and we had torrential rain

Time to get indoors  for our lunch.
The quay has many cafe's and restaurants these days. But this is always our first choice.
Why...........you may ask,
its not fancy place   and usually you have to queue to get in .

But how can we say no,
to a plate of delicious fish and chips. Crispy batter, bread and butter and  a pot of tea for me and coffee for my OH.

Thank you for calling in to share a cuppa with me today. I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Europe

This is a  ' just because',  page, sometimes I think about what to create,
most times I just get started and see what happens.
I'm sure many folk here in the UK are thinking at the moment about what happens next.
My family certainly are....

So this is my page  for Europe.

It is an old antique map I used as a base.
The Thinking lady is an image from Dezinaworld.

I will be joining the folk over at Art Journal Journey
where there is only a few days left for us to join in Mary's theme of Maps.

Thankyou for calling in to see me today.
Your visit is always appreciated.

I believe I can Fly

There is a super new challenge them starting today over at Try it on Tuesdays
called ....'I believe I can Fly'.

There are some super examples from the team so please pop over to take a look.

My journal page began with background water colour washes, a little washi tape , stencils and a clump of TH  Wild flower images.
Finnabair images completed the look I was aiming for after sticking down some fussy cut butterflies.

I did have a little play with the page in my digital program, by doing this I can print it out as a digital card for future use in any size I choose.

Thank you for calling in to see me today, the comments you leave for me are always appreciated.

Afternoon tea

I realy started off this journal page with
in mind , where Mary is hosting  the current theme of ....Maps.

It seemed to take a life of its own with the lady propping up the post box ,
she was ready to take  her afternoon tea.
The pair on the telegraph pole stand no chance of being served a cuppa up there.

This brings me to   T   stands for Tuesday over at
Here is my photo for today to tempt you all with,,,

a very English Afternoon tea.
My OH and I went in to have a sandwich and ended up ordering this tasty stack of delights.
Yes, some sandwiches, currant scones with butter, strawberry jam and clotted cream.
Last but not lease some delicious looking cakes.
Now the cakes proved a step to far, but hey,  they  weren't left behind.

Carefully wrapped in a napkin, we took them home to eat  with a cup of Chai
later that evening.

Thank you for visiting with me today, I have enjoyed your company.

Winnie the Pooh visits London for AJJ

In the UK we  have been celebrating our Queens 90th Birthday,
many interesting pieces could be found in our newspapers.
The additional pieces I have added to my base map of London were in the Daily Telegraph,.
It refers to the fact that Winnie the Pooh [A.A. Milne]
was also celebrating  his  90th Birthday this year.
Can you just imagine Pooh reading this to the Queen.
I can, but I do have a vivid imagination.
This is the poem that was with the article.......

.A hum for a Queen.

The Queen is in her palace, as Queens often do.
Doing  all those busy things , that busy Queens do.
But the Queen could never know, as you and I do.
That doing nothing much can be the BEST thing to do.
So from a forest far away, for your special day.
We're sending you some quiet and a little time to play.

Thank you for calling in to see me today, I hope this page for
where this months theme is maps,
has made you smile and remember this book.

Black bird

A digital collage page for this weeks word  at the

which is............. Blackbird.
I took a  trip down memory lane when I was assembling this page.

Remembering  when I was young and  getting your photo taken was quite an event.
Not many folk could afford a camera.
Parents would say things like, stand very still,
'''smile for the camera'' or  ''smile for the birdie''
and we did just that.
The results were usually cheesy,  stiff looking grins
and we sometimes  looked like a poker was stuck up our backs.
Photos were black and white,  how times have changed.

Thank you for stopping by to see what I have been making, I always appreciate
the comments you leave for me.

Bicycles

A card I made for my OH last month for his birthday.
He was a keen cyclist and it is one of the sports my family enjoy viewing on TV.
We used  to take our cycles to France when the boys were young- teenagers  ,[ they both still cycle] taken apart they  all fitted inside the caravan. Destination reached the bikes were re- assembled.
We  have some great memories, seeing the Tour de France routes, pedalling through vineyards, even  visiting some beautiful Chateau  on the bikes.

Anyway back to the card, lots of layers as you can see,  a Stampendous image
and Vintage Photo distress ink for added shading.

There is still another week for you to enter the current challenge at Try it on Tuesdays
there the theme is  'For Him'.

Thank you for stopping by to see me today. I always appreciate the comments you leave for me.

If you have come to visit me on T day.

T on Tuesday at Duxford IWM

Another week has flown over and I haven't managed to do half the things I had in mind.
Well tomorrow is always another day.
For this...... Tuesday T Day at
I have more photos from our visit to Cambridge to show you,.
This time I have grouped a few of  them together.

We visited the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.
This air base was built in 1917 and was the home of the American  78th Fighter Group, in WW11.

It is an amazing museum. I was fascinated by the planes they had hanging from the roof tops in the enormous hangers. Full size complete planes, imagine the weight and strength of the roof.
They had a French Concorde on the floor in another hanger, under the hanging planes.

We stopped for tea and had a grand view of the planes

Cheese and chive  scones with coffee for my OH [husband] and tea for me.
The down side was, that I am not a fan of paper cups and plates,
but it was a welcome break from all the walking.

There was lots to see outside as well

The shop was full of  tempting stuff for folk to buy,  I did resist as I thought it quite expensive.
I did manage to get a few photos

Thank you for stopping by on  T Day. and sharing a cuppa with me.

You're lost mate.

You're lost mate said the golden fish.
So I am said the sailor, but, I 'd get there quicker if I could see the  stars.
Don't we just take maps for granted these days, or maybe I should be saying, 'Sat Navs'.

Another page for Art Journal Journey
where Mary has chosen this months theme of Maps.

I hope you all have a good day and if you are out and about, please use a map if you need one.

Thank you for calling by, I always appreciate the comments you leave for me

A moonlit picnic

The theme this week for the

A digital page made using elements of my own,  from Mischief Circus and Dezinaworld.

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you all have a good weekend.

Hadrians Wall for AJJ

  Hadrians Wall
is my next contribution  for the new theme at
I used one of my stamped and painted  journal pages as a base.
The map, photo etc were added in my digital program.
Some images were found on a Free to use Google search.

If you look closely at the map, there is a X near the wall.
This is an old map print but it is also  indicates the area   where we live.
About 40 years ago they were repairing the road through the village,
work was to be stopped,  when they came across  the remaining stonework of a Roman Turret.
They knew it was there,  but they  were taking the opportunity to do more archeology.
. Experts were called,  we took the children from the school to see,  the by now deep excavation.
While it was all recorded.
Sadly due to its position it was carefully covered and the road repaired.

This is a piece of the wall open to visitors at Heddon on the Wall.
Just over the top of the rise you can see our village  in the distance.

Thank you for stopping by to see me today,
 your comments are always appreciated.

One for the boys at TioT's

The new challenge  theme at Try it on Tuesdays is.......
For him......
Baby boys, boys, teenagers, men,  dad's.  uncles, grandpa's the list goes on...........
Please call over for all the details and see what we have been making.
This card  was fun to make and  it went to a family friend , I won't mention his age,
but we are all still young inside.

This is how my card started out,  and as usual  I forgot to take photos

The background is made using  stencils and my all time favourite Vintage Photo distress ink
The stamps are from Bee Crafty [Banksy Style.]

This is a digital   page I created in my Craft Studio using the photo, my own embossed background and some additions from Mischief Circus kits.

Thank you for stopping by to see me today,
I always appreciate the comments you leave for me.

If you've called by to visit on T Day, please scroll down to  today's earlier post.

T Day and a visit to the Cambridge American Memorial

I will start off by   calling in for, ' T Day'  at
  Bleubeard and Elizabeths

I made this page using some of the photos  in this post and one
of  my pre- paint splattered journal pages.

The cup of tea was close by as I have been trying to  sort out some  holiday photos.

As this page has a couple of maps  I will also visit with the girls at
 Art Journal Journey
for this months theme of Maps
...............................................
................................................

The American War Graves... Cambridge.

A little late for the day when veterans are remembered in America,
but I thought my blog friends in the USA may be interested in seeing this peaceful and tranquil site we visited last Thursday.
It was a grey dull day, but it felt so calm walking around the area.

The bronze map at the entrance

I stood on a l path between the pools for this photo

Then turned around to get a view of the  of the other two with the
Chapel at the opposite end .

One marble wall showed the missions the pilots flew.
The other wall was all windows over looking the site.

The Altar  looked amazing.
It was a tall,  narrow building and the ceiling was all decorated in mosaics.

We visited on Thursday, and were told about the ceremony that had been held on Monday when each cross had  its own flag.  I said I would be showing photos to friends,  they kindly  gave me a copy of  the service booklet. The cover shows one of the early ceremonies at the site.[ see journal page]
There are 8 local gardeners who tend the site and
as you can imagine it is  well cared for,
We owe so much to so many,
 who gave their lives.

I cannot remember the exact number who rest here, it was about  3,800.
With over 5,100 missing  also  remembered on this Portland stone  honour wall.
This is the only World War 11 American Military cemetery in the UK

War is not an easy subject to write about and we have to remember that  they were sent off into conflict  from all countries to do their duty.
There was suffering on all sides
for the families whose loved ones never returned home.

Thank you for visiting with me today and sharing this special memory.

Are we nearly there? for AJJ

This digital page is for
Mary C. Nasser is the hostess this month and has chosen.... Maps.... as the theme.

We are now nearly  home with the caravan and the Land Rover.
These past few days have been rather wet, but didn't stop us from doing the things we had planned . The last three days in Cambridge
had us visiting the Air Museum, and the American War Memorials.
Lots of photos will follow when I get them sorted.
I remember well when the lads were small how they always used to ask  if we were, 'nearly there'.
Now its them driving  us on our journey home.
How times change.
The map of Northumberland is an vintage one, this is our destination, but not Alnwick.

Thank you for visiting me, I will be grabbing a coffee and catching up with everyone in the next couple of days.
