Play days and spicy buns

Some days you just need to play
.

 Remember when  playing was fun.
In the absence of an audience there  was always the family pet or a row of dolls and teddies.
Those were the days....
This is a digital page made as a reminder for the current challenge theme over at TioT's.
Play days are still fun for me,..... an excuse...not that I need one.... to get
into the craft room and start creating.

......................................

Speaking of that well loved place a blog friend and I were talking on the phone  the other day,
about our messy craft rooms, this was the photo I shared with her of my abode at that time.
Well as you can see it was  in desperate need of a good tidy up.

For sure not far away would  be my mug of tea.

So I will pop over and say hello
  to the Tea gang at,
Bleubeard and Elizabeths

where T stands for Tuesday

Doing a Supermarket shop  has its own bakery,
had me smelling  a tempting  spicy aroma.
Spicy buns are somewhat of a favourite around Easter time in our home.
But Hey its September....
and they are still marking the buns with the Easter Cross.
Needless to say a few went into my basket
and take my word for it they were................. delicious

Selling  these all year round, doesn't seem to make them special anymore.
My Gran used to make these buns all year,
but the cross only appeared on them for the Easter baking.
I wonder if this sort of thing occurs in other countries besides the UK.

If you wonder about the   ''Mess '' I  did clear a space on the table ,
but have to report its back to normal.
But it is still on my list of things to do.

Hope you all have a happy T day and thank you for calling in to see me.

  1. Lovely to see your 'mess' - I am always very suspicious of people where everything is cleared away and tidy! Love your pretty journal page, and playing is always good. There's a nice saying, 'You don't stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing'. The buns look delicious, I always loved them! Happy T Day and happy everything, hugs, Valerie

  2. Yup, we have those buns here in the northeast US too, but only at Easter and only in some stores. They are good though, and now I want one. :) Love seeing your mess, looks like my space right now. One of these days I think I might give it a cleaning, but I never work as well when its too clean. And lastly, your piece is wonderful today. It makes me want to go play. I agree though. Sometimes you just need to play all day.Happy T day. Hugs-Erika

  4. A very happy mess I think. The more space I get the more I fill it. I used to share this room with Vic until he got a laptop and was pleased to vacate his bit of the room. Your page is gorgeous with the wonderful old fashioned look for childhood books I used to own.

Nice thing to have with your coffee but I must agree that nothing is special any more or for certain times of year.

    Love Chrissie xx

  5. Adorable page, my son and I don't play together like we used to, but it was fun. Looks like you found a yummy treat while out, sometimes I buy a doughnut while shopping and eat it on the way home. :)

  6. haha, my mess could beat your mess;) but only boring People have tidy houses (read this Quote somewhere and instantly agreed;))
i don´t know These buns with crosses, but you are right - they are better matching for easter. but maybe it is because you can break them easier? anyway, have a happy t-day!!

  7. Everyone needs to play, but children seem to learn a LOT through play. So play is always good.

My craft room is in a mess at the moment, but unlike most, I simply can't create in chaos and messes. One thing I noticed. You sure love your ink pens, don't you? And you seem to like your ink pads, too. I notice, because I have neither. Guess that is why my eye went to them.

We don't get those buns in the midwest US, or if we do, we don't get them in Wichita. I've looked. I first saw them in California at Easter in the late 90s. They would be a real treat here, too. Thanks for sharing your art, your craft room space, and your tea and buns with us for T this Tuesday.

  8. Lovely page Yvonne.. I need playdays very often-lol. Your space looks perfect - there is nooo mess- you sholud see my workdesk! I would love to taste this buns - sounds heavenly! Hubby often eats long plaited bun for breakfast with some apricot jam on it..we get this here the whole year long even though initially it is a special All Saints' Day or Easter pastry but I don't like it so much at all - just once or twice a year I really take one or two slices of it.
    Happy T-Day !
    Happy TIOT!

  10. what a sweet depiction of play and the simple pleasures of childhood. My desk can get pretty cluttered too. Oh well. My great grandmother used to make hot cross buns. The bakeries do offer them here but I have only seen them at Easter time. Happy T day!

  11. You are sweet to show us where the magic happens in your art room.
I have a magnet on our fridge that reads: "Creative clutter is better than idle neatness."
That's my story and I am sticking to it ;-)
Lovely collage you created and I could not agree more about PLAY.
If I go to long I start to feel out of balance.
The seasons come and go so quickly enjoying hot cross buns in September makes perfect sense = Yum Yum Yum
Happy T Day dear Yvonne oxo

  12. I only make the hot cross buns on Good Friday, but now that I think of it there's no reason not to enjoy them year 'round. Yours looks tasty. Happy T Tuesday!

  14. I don't remember having hot cross buns either, but I have heard of them........I think they may be called something else in this area.
I can compete with you on the messy craft area for sure! It is always good to see someone else's well loved area.....(smile...wink)
    Thanks for the T-day comment.

  15. Absolutely charming vintage images - a lovely page. I'm afraid I had to leave my craft room in a horrible state when I came away - so I can empathise. And yes, hot cross buns should be Easter only - but they are delicious, and I'm not exactly what you'd call religious, so who am I to say?!

  16. I love your play days page with its lovely whimsical images. I love the chance to play, be it on my own with my crafts or on the floor playing with my great granddaughters. All great fun!
Thank you for sharing the photo of your work desk, looks like lots of interesting stash. Unfortunately I don't have a dedicated craft room so I have to try and be tidy. I recently bought some new storage shelves with boxes so at least I do have a place for everything.
I love hot cross buns and yours looks delicious even if it is out of season.

  17. A fun page indeed! And my desk looks not too dissimilar to yours so I guess it's situation normal for crafters:-). It's such a shame the way nothing seems to have a season any more- I did find that the same does not really apply in France, yes eggs come out in spring before Easter but only about a month before & here it will probably be in November! Fruit & veg are almost always native or Europe grown as opposed to racking up enormous air miles.....makes me angry the way anything is available all the time in the uk. Grrrr.....rant over....

  18. Out of the mess you create such beauty in your art work, it really doesn't matter how tidy your craft space is - and today's page is lovely and I think the quote is applicable to art journalling too! Mmm, hot cross buns are delicious anytime of year :-). Wishing you a Happy T day! J :-)

  19. Love your page and the quote is so true! I see you have the regulation size space to work in! I think it's a shame that Hot Cross Buns are around all year. In Lincoln we used to be able to buy spiced buns all year but not with a cross on! We always ate Hot cross buns for breakfast on Good Friday - in the days when everyone had the day off! Hugs, Chrisx

  20. I remember my aunt making those buns ♡♡♡♡ Love the play day art and so happy to see that I am not the only one with a messy desk.

  21. I think we all have a messy desk most of the time, that's the charm! This hobby needs a lot of space. Thanks for sharing.
Your page is adorable, and the cross bun looks delicious! A super post today Yvonne!

  22. I love your page Yvonne and the sweet vintage images. Some days? couldn't we play every day?
And did you play schools and hospitals with your dolls and teddies too?
Your 'mess' didn't look too bad - or is it like mine, a lot more lurking under the table(s) and also
on the floor. I know I need to clear up when there is a narrow walkway from my chair to the door ha ha
Your bun looks very yummy :)
Hope you've had a lovely day... Gill xx
