Knowledge for AJJ

I have always loved reading  and books of all kinds appeal to me.
We didn't have TV when I was young, so my earliest encounters with books
were the stories that were read to me.
I am joining the folk again at
Art Journal Journey
where  Elizabeth's  theme for this month is
Back to School

This side of the journal spread  is  all about Fairy Tales.   Hidden meanings never  came to mind back then, just the magic,  make believe and  hopefully a happy ending to the tale.

The background was scribbled crayons, which I blended with a wet wipe and sprinkled with a little Brusho powder.
The cut outs  are papers sent me by a friend. Graphics 45 I think.
Butterflies are stamped and fussy cut and left over from another project.

This page was made in  a digital program.
Growing older,  the magic  disappears, with the need to gather knowledge.
Books are for information, aids to learning, filling your head with facts,  maybe at the time, they are of no interest to you. But,  they have to be learned in detail, in order to pass exams.
School days pass, gathering speed and  when we  leave  and go out into the world.... How much do we truly remember.  I would say quite a lot stays,  its there stored for the day we may be asked a question, that would jog our memory and hopefully we would  be able to recall the relevant  facts.

Thank you for stopping by to see me today,
you are very welcome and your comments are always appreciated.
Digital additions
are images from
Mischief Circus kits.

  1. Love the many layers on the fairytale page, those papers are perfect! And the adult page quote is perfect too! I used to read a lot, and I always enjoyed imagining the story in my head.

  4. I love this, Yvonne. Like you, I had no TV growing up. My grandparents wouldn't allow one in our home. Ironically, the day AFTER I graduated from high school, one miraculously appeared. So now when I see old 80s tv drama marathons, I binge on them.

My grandmother would have LOVED this spread. She had a duel degree in teaching and business. Her sister was a medical doctor, nearly unheard of back then. She was big on knowledge, but also on using your imagination.

So fun, yet so different, the right side is colorful and full of energy. It's amazing how fairy tales seem to make us happy, even though they were often vicious. Of course, as children, we didn't see that, only that all was right and good in the end and everyone lived happily ever after.

Very powerful AJJ entry today, dear friend.

  5. Brilliant spread that had me remembering reading fairy tales from an old book of my Mums! I think my head is full of older memories and what happened a couple of days ago sometimes escapes me!! Hugs, Chrisx

  7. I love books too. I find it magical that a little stack of paper can take you to all kinds of places, both real and imaginary. I still haven't started reading on my phone or digitally, at least not books yet, because I love the physical ability to hold a book in my hands. But in the car- I love listening to a good book. Thanks for this post. I think you made an great spread Yvonne. Hugs-Erika

  8. Great pages Yvonne, I remember loving to read my books at night and yes we took the stories for what they were, magical and exciting without feeling the need to interpret them into something different. Love all your images and ideas xxx

  14. It amazes me how facts learned so long ago can sometimes pop back to the front of ones mind - I had some Latin do that recently & I only did the subject for 4 terms! Very nice memory jog thanks Yvonne!
